Health & Safety law changes on the way
In the recent budget, the Chancellor, George Osbourne signalled that Lord Young’s report into health and safety law reform would be implemented. Lord Young’s report, “Common Sense, Common Safety” the essence of which was to signal a less aggressive and interventionist approach whilst still pursuing a tough line on larger businesses and high risk industries such as construction. It remains to be seen how this will pan out in practice and critics are already suggesting that what some businesses save in immediate measures to comply with law may be counterbalanced by the insurance industry taking the view that if the Government doesn’t regulate as strongly, premiums will need to go up to represent a perceived increased risk for insurers.
It also seems there will be a centralised repository online designed to provide all the information and assistance small business needs in one portal. This is certainly welcome but may be bad news for blogs like us !
